Position: Business Development & Coffee Sales Managers
Location: Seeking talented individuals across the UK
Job Type: Full time, permanent
Days: Monday to Friday (40 hours)

Job Purpose
We're looking for a commercially driven sales professional to grow and develop our customer base across a designated territory. This role combines new business acquisition with the development and retention of existing accounts, delivering outstanding customer service, coffee excellence training, and tailored solutions that help customers grow their business.

The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving sales and profit targets, increasing product penetration, securing new contracts, and building long-term customer partnerships.

Job Scope
The role holder will manage a portfolio of National, Independent, and Regional customers whilst actively identifying and winning new business opportunities. They will be responsible for territory planning, pipeline management, customer retention, and achieving agreed commercial objectives through the sale of Matthew Algie products, services, and equipment.
The role requires regular travel within the designated territory, attendance at sales meetings, trade events, and occasional support across other regions when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, Organisation & Territory Management
    • Effectively manage time and diary to maximise customer and prospect engagement.
    • Maintain an accurate journey plan and customer records.
    • Develop and maintain a healthy sales pipeline.
    • Ensure all customer and prospect activity is recorded within the CRM system.
    • Monitor account performance, identify growth opportunities and proactively address risks to retention.
    • Maintain professional standards of presentation and company assets.

  • Existing Customer Development

    • Build strong relationships with key decision makers across assigned accounts.
    • Conduct regular customer visits in line with agreed service schedules.
    • Drive year-on-year sales and profit growth within the existing customer base.
    • Identify opportunities for product range extension, upselling, and cross-selling.
    • Conduct coffee, equipment, and business audits to uncover growth opportunities.
    • Deliver coffee excellence training and operational support where required.
    • Ensure pricing, contractual, and equipment policies are adhered to.
    • Respond to customer issues promptly and work collaboratively to achieve resolution.
    • Utilise marketing materials, customer insights, and gap analysis to maximise account value.
    • Support customer success through consultative selling and business development initiatives.
  • New Business Development

    • Identify, qualify, and secure new business opportunities within the territory.
    • Develop and maintain a structured prospect plan.
    • Deliver compelling sales presentations and proposals.
    • Promote the full range of Matthew Algie products, services, and equipment.
    • Generate referrals and self-generated appointments through networking and relationship building.
    • Negotiate and secure contracts in line with company objectives.
    • Accurately complete all sales and contract documentation.
  • Communication & Reporting

    • Maintain regular communication with internal departments to support customer needs.
    • Provide accurate sales forecasts, pipeline updates, and activity reports.
    • Attend sales meetings, training sessions, and business reviews as required.
    • Ensure all customer and prospect interactions are recorded and communicated effectively.
    • Complete all required administration accurately and on time, including expenses, mileage, forecasting, and reporting.

Person Specification
Experience

  • Essential
    • Proven experience in a field-based sales or business development role.
    • Track record of achieving sales targets and delivering excellent customer service.
    • Experience working in a structured, fast-paced commercial environment.

    • Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

    • Ability to train customers on products, equipment operation, cleaning, and maintenance.

    • Understanding of foodservice and hospitality market trends.
    • Barista skills and coffee product knowledge.
    • Awareness of competitor products and market activity.
