Field Sales Manager

Role Overview

Title: Field Sales Manager Region Covered: L, CH, WA, CW, SK, ST, TF, WV Candidates must reside in one of these areas.

As a Field Sales Manager at Polypipe, you’ll drive regional growth through a dual approach—specification sales with developers and contractors while building stronger partnerships with merchant customers. This role balances tactical account development with frontline sales execution, ensuring Polypipe remains the first choice in both the open specification and merchant spaces.


Key Responsibilities

Specification Sales & Opportunity Conversion

  • Proactively identify and convert specification opportunities across:
    • Private and social housing developers
    • Local authorities
    • Contractors, groundworkers, and site managers
  • Build trusted relationships with key decision-makers, including technical, commercial, and procurement teams.
  • Manage and win project-based opportunities via early engagement and real-time CRM tracking.
  • Position Polypipe’s full product range at both on-plot and off-plot stages, driving value and volume.

Merchant Development & Account Management

  • Grow sales across regional merchants (open market and OTC), maximizing:
    • Share of wallet
    • Stockholding
    • Point-of-sale (POS) visibility
  • Deliver professional, value-driven presentations and campaigns tailored to branch and group objectives.
  • Strengthen relationships with branch managers and influencers to support pull-through activity while taking market share from competitors.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Marketing, Merchandising, Category Managers, and Desk-Based Account Managers) to meet trading plans and growth goals.

Sales Execution & KPIs

  • Exceed volume, revenue, and open specification targets across your customer portfolio.
  • Meet weekly customer call expectations.
  • Accurately report and manage sales activity through Genvue (CRM) and business planning tools.
  • Present customer messaging and ambitions clearly and confidently while maintaining commercial relationships.

Market Intelligence & Continuous Improvement

  • Act as the regional eyes and ears of the business, providing insights on:
    • Market trends
    • Competitor activity
    • Customer sentiment
  • Support compliance, auditing, and site reporting as needed.
  • Stay updated on product solutions, regulations, and construction trends.

Skills & Requirements

  • Proven sales experience, with a track record of exceeding targets, preferably within the construction sector.
  • Experience in a field sales role within a manufacturing business is highly desirable.
  • Specification and channel sales experience in commercial building segments.
  • Strong ability to:
    • Communicate and influence at all organisational levels.
    • Analyse data and propose concise solutions.
    • Listen, negotiate, motivate, and present effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full driving licence (essential due to travel requirements).
  • Commercial acumen—understand customer motivations and develop solution-oriented business tactics.
  • Experience with modern sales tools (CRM, digital marketing strategies).
