Location & Salary
- Location: Derby, DE6
- Salary: GBP £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
- Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Working Patterns
- Regular Hours: 40 hours per week
- Schedule: 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch break
- Flexibility Required: Additional hours may be needed as required. Approved overtime is paid at 1.5x standard hourly rate.

Duties & Responsibilities

Installation, Maintenance & Repair: Conduct installation, maintenance, and repair of compactors, balers and associated machinery at customer sites.

Technical Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and resolve operational faults in mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Implement solutions to minimise downtime effectively.

Preventative Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to reduce unplanned outages and extend equipment lifespan.

Customer Collaboration:
- Provide technical guidance and operational training to customers.
- Offer support tailored to improve efficiency of equipment use.

Documentation & Reporting:
- Record service reports, including parts used, repairs completed and recommendations.
- Maintain logs to ensure stock adequacy for minimised repeat visits.

Reactive Service & Timeliness: Respond quickly to service calls and troubleshoot equipment failures efficiently.

Innovation & Improvement: Work with the Technical Manager on streamlining processes and enhancing equipment reliability.

Cross-Departmental Communication: Collaborate with sales teams and technical departments to optimise customer service levels.

Parts & Equipment Management:
- Ensure maintenance of hand tools & diagnostic equipment.
- Comply with Health & Safety policies, including on-site customer requirements.
Requirements
About You
-
A certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering.

Proven ability to work independently.

Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.

Technical Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
- Competence in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Problem-Solving & Efficiency:
- Aptitude for hands-on-mechanical troubleshooting and efficient multi-tasking.
- Capability to prioritise service calls.

Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years in a similar role.
Desirable Qualifications
- A formal certificate in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel.
- Knowledge of retail, waste, recycling, or industrial equipment.
- Experience in fabrication, welding, or preventative maintenance programs.
