Field Service Engineer – Full Time

Location: South East (base) / Mobile across the UK

About the Role

As a Field Service Engineer for the PowerGen business unit, you will report to the Service Supervisor and be responsible for:

  • Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and unplanned reactive maintenance for MTU power generation systems.
  • Scheduled repairs, including replacements, upgrades, or additional works on:
    • Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS)
    • Diesel and Gas Generators
    • Battery Storage and Microgrid Systems
    • Associated balance of plant components.
  • Installation, commissioning and testing of new MTU power generation systems.

You will also provide 24/7 emergency on-call support as part of the Field Service Engineer rota.


Responsibilities

  • Compliance: Ensure full adherence to all relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Service Work: Maintain and repair UPS, generators, battery storage, microgrids, engines, and ancillary controls.
  • Commissioning: Oversee the full testing and preparation of systems for customer use.
  • Emergency Response: Provide 24/7 on-call support and rapid troubleshooting.
  • Technical Reporting: Document completed work, faults identified, and maintenance history.
  • Diagnostics: Use both traditional and PC-based diagnostic tools to identify system faults.
  • Collaboration: Support sales, meetings, and workshops as requested.
  • Stock Management: Monitor and maintain parts/equipment allocated to your role.

Home-Based with Office/Workshop Commitment

  • The role is primarily home-based, but attendance at our East Grinstead offices/workshops will be required when not on-site.

Physical Demands & Standards

  • Physically demanding with a requirement for precision, discipline, and strong communication to reflect Rolls-Royce’s high-performance culture.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified/conversant with MTU power generation products and associated systems.
  • PC/laptop-based diagnostic skills ( traditional + digital tools).
  • Fieldwork experience with a proven ability to work independently.
  • Degree or NVQ in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations (certification ideally IOSH/NEBOSH Safety certification).
  • GCSEs in Maths & English (or equivalent).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • IT skills: On-the-job training for SAP, C4S, CCC, MTU Go Care, Warranty System & Business Portal.

  • Full & clean driving licence.
  • UK Passport.
  • Extensive travel readiness (vast UK/RoI coverage, occasional overseas assignments).
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively.
