Field Service Engineer

Permanent Location: UK-wide travel; regional patch with occasional overnight stays and on-call duties Areas Available: Harlow (Relocation Package Available), Manchester, Liverpool, Hull, Thetford


About the Role

Are you the right candidate?

  • Do you have experience servicing gas or diesel engines?
  • Have you carried out fault finding on mechanical and electrical systems?
  • Are you happy to travel and work in a field-based role?

We’re looking for Field Service Engineers to support our customers’ gas engine plant across the UK. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring operational efficiency, reducing downtime, and delivering excellent service on-site.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Planned & reactive maintenance – Carrying out servicing, repairs, and upgrades on gas engines and related plant.
  • Fault diagnosis – Identifying and resolving mechanical and electrical faults across customer sites.
  • Downtime reduction – Supporting plant uptime and minimising unplanned outages.
  • Technical documentation – Completing detailed service reports and maintaining technical records.
  • Logistics & inventory management – Efficiently handling van stock, tools, and spare parts.
  • Breakdown response – Covering on-call duties as part of a rota for emergency callouts.
  • Oil sample management – Collecting and analysing samples for oil condition monitoring.
  • Team support – Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team development.

Our Offer

  • Salary: £36,000 – £55,000 (dependent on experience)
  • Company vehicle with fuel and expenses covered
  • Overtime pay at 1.5x rate

Where You’ll Be Working

You’ll operate within an industrial or energy generation environment, focusing on gas engine power solutions. Your role is customer-facing, with strong technical and operational support from our back-office team.


What We Need from You

✅ Relevant mechanical/engineering experience – Ideal: CHP, gas engines, or similar. ✅ Strong fault-finding skills – Proven ability to diagnose and resolve both mechanical and electrical issues. ✅ Engineering qualification – In mechanical, electrical, or related discipline. ✅ Full UK driving licence – Necessary for UK-wide travel and field-based work. ✅ IT proficiency – Ability to use reporting and diagnostic systems. ✅ Travel readiness – Willingness to work regionally, occasionally overnight, and on-call.
