Job Description

Field Service Engineer

Full Time

Location: Based in the South East / Mobile across the UK

Role Overview

As the Field Service Engineer, you will report to the Service Supervisor for the PowerGen Business Unit and will be responsible for the day-to-day planned preventative maintenance services, unplanned reactive maintenance services, and scheduled repairs including replacement, upgrades, or additional works on MTU power generation products and balance of plant associated with the complete power generation systems.

Products include Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Diesel and Gas Generators, Battery Storage, and Microgrid Systems. The role also involves supporting the installation, commissioning, and testing of new MTU power generation systems. There is also a requirement to provide 365/24/7 emergency on-call coverage as part of the Field Service Engineers on-call rota.


Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation applicable to the role.
  • Carry out Service Work on Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Diesel and Gas Generators, Battery Storage, and Microgrid Systems.
  • Carry out Repair Work on Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Diesel and Gas Generators, Battery Storage, and Microgrid Systems Diesel Engines, Gas Engines, Generators, their Ancillaries, and Controls Systems.
  • Carry out Commissioning Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Diesel and Gas Generators, Battery Storage, and Microgrid Systems to ensure that all products and systems are ready for the customer.
  • Provide 365/24/7 emergency on-call coverage as part of the Field Service Engineers call-out rota.
  • Compile Technical Reports on completion of each job detailing the work undertaken and the reasons why.
  • Use diagnostic tools and procedures and identify faults which can be communicated to the customer.
  • Support other service and sales activities as directed, e.g., attending meetings with other department representatives.
  • Be responsible for stock control of parts and equipment that are in their care.
  • As and when required, perform duties in the workshop.

Position Qualifications

  • Must be qualified/conversant with MTU power generation products and balance of plant associated with complete power generation systems. Capable of using both traditional and PC-based diagnostics.
  • Experience of working autonomously in the Field.
  • Appropriate qualifications in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar relevant qualification or demonstrable industry experience.
  • Ideally sound knowledge of CDM including relevant qualification plus/or IOSH/NEBOSH H&S qualification.
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Computer Skills – Computer literate with good keyboard skills. Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and email. On-the-job training will be provided for SAP, C4S, CCC, MTU Go Care, MTU Business Portal & Warranty System.

Preferred Requirements

  • Full and Clean Driving Licence, UK Passport Holder
  • Willingness to Travel – The successful applicant will be required to travel extensively within the UK & ROI and may on occasion be additionally required to spend time overseas including annual product training in Germany.
  • An enthusiastic person with good communication skills.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team when required.
