Field Service Engineer
Location: Field-Based – Stirling, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dunfermline and surrounding areas
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
About The Role
We are looking for a Field Service Engineer to join our team, supporting customers across Stirling, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dunfermline and the surrounding areas.
The focus of this role is to deliver a first-class service to both internal and external customers while maintaining and repairing Volvo Construction Equipment and associated machinery. You'll be responsible for identifying customer needs, maximising machine uptime and promoting SMT GB's aftermarket products and services where appropriate.
What You'll Be Doing
- Service, maintain and repair Volvo Construction Equipment and associated machinery.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using technical expertise and diagnostic equipment.
- Identify additional service and repair opportunities and discuss these with customers and internal teams.
- Carry out all work in line with quotations and time guides, highlighting where additional work may be required.
- Install software updates and system enhancements when released.
- Complete electronic job cards, reports and timesheets accurately and in real time.
- Order and manage parts required for repairs and return parts promptly upon job completion.
- Support call-out and overtime requirements where required.
- Attend product and systems training to maintain technical competence and product knowledge.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company and manufacturer standards.

You'll be someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality work, enjoys problem-solving and can work independently while representing SMT GB professionally on customer sites.

You Will Have
- A formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Mechanics or a related discipline (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
- Proven experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction plant, agricultural machinery, HGVs or similar equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulics and electrical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to fault diagnosis.
- Good communication skills and the ability to build relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Strong IT skills and confidence using digital reporting systems.
- A commercially aware mindset with a focus on delivering excellent customer service.
- High levels of attention to detail and a professional approach to work.
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Previous experience working with Volvo Construction Equipment or similar heavy plant machinery.
