Field Service Engineer

Location: Leicester & Surrounding Areas Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)

About The Role

We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to support our operations in the Leicester area. This field-based role involves servicing, maintaining, and repairing Volvo construction equipment at customer sites, ensuring a premium experience for both internal and external stakeholders.

Your role will combine technical expertise with a commercially-savvy mindset, enabling you to efficiently address equipment issues while identifying opportunities to upsell further services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver on-site service and maintenance, repairing machinery rapidly and meeting customer expectations.
  • Perform servicing, maintenance, and repairs on Volvo construction equipment and related systems.
  • Diagnose faults using technical expertise and diagnostics tools, continuing with clear guidance to clients.
  • Operate within quoted timelines and budgets, spotting additional service needs or aftermarket solutions.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all tasks—completing reports, job cards, and timesheets in real time.
  • Proactively suggest additional services (e.g., aftermarket solutions) during field visits.

About You

We’re looking for a highly skilled, customer-focused engineer who can thrive in an independent working environment while upholding rigorous technical and safety standards.

Essential Requirements

  • Engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds in Plant, HGV, or comparable engineering discipline).
  • Proven, practical experience maintaining or repairing heavy plant or construction equipment.
  • Diagnostic and problem-solving skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication—with a strong, solution-focused approach to customer relations.
  • Full UK driving licence (Category C/ food shortages highly desirable).
  • Availability to work flexibly, including overtime and unsociable hours/emergency call-outs.

Desirable Qualities

  • Experience in welding or fabrication.
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, or emissions systems.
