Location: Basildon (GB) | Contract Type: Hybrid with field-based travel
Salary Details
£37,318 – £47,000 per annum

About the Role
As a Mission Systems Field Service Engineer at Leonardo UK, you will deliver technical support to ensure cutting-edge communication and mission systems across UK and international defence platforms are operational, reliable, and mission-ready throughout their lifecycle.
This role involves direct engagement with customers domestically and abroad, including on-site visits to Ministry of Defence (MoD) establishments, deployed environments, and trials locations. Based in Basildon, the position requires regular field travel to sustain product delivery and in-service support.
Your Impact
You’ll play a pivotal role in bridging product development and field operations. This role focuses on hands-on technical expertise, documentation, and front-line customer engagement—key to sustaining mission readiness. The team values self-reliance, collaboration, and driven problem-solving.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering product development and in-service support
- Managing integration, testing, and acceptance processes
- Designing technical support solutions, including necessary documentation
- Providing on-site field service in the UK and internationally
- Offering remote technical support to deployed units

What You’ll Bring
Experience & Knowledge
- Mission systems expertise, particularly in secure voice communication, tactical networking, and external/internal defences
- Operator or maintainer experience within defence systems
- Practical familiarity with:
- IP networking & routing technology
- RF & antenna systems
- Cryptographic devices & key management
- Message handling systems
- Diagnostics tools and electronic test equipment
- Technical documentation, training scripts, and reporting
- Prior exposure to a defence environment
Qualifications
- HNC (Higher National Certificate) in a relevant discipline, or equivalent qualifications/experience
Additional Expectations

A degree of mobility and ability to travel off-site for fieldwork (in UK and international locations)

A full, valid driving licence (essential due to deployment requirements)

Advanced security vetting checks may apply:
- Mandatory meeting of the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
- Possible requirement for National Security Vetting (NSV), including:
- Security Check (SC)
- Developed Vetting (DV)

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially:
- MS Word (advanced formatting styles, paragraph numbering, generating linked PDFs)
- Technical document & presentation adaptability (using PowerPoint and/or Visio)
- Well-developed graphical and diagrammatic skills
