Industry: Electrical Engineering / Switchgear
Our client, a well-established specialist within the electrical engineering and switchgear sector, is seeking to recruit an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their expanding service team.
This role is ideal for a Field Service Engineer with a robust electrical engineering background and hands-on experience in switchgear systems, maintenance, upgrades, and fault diagnostics. The successful applicant will be pivotal in delivering high-calibre service projects across the UK, internationally, offshore, and within marine settings—ensuring unwavering standards in safety and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Offering technical support, expert advice, and guidance to existing customers regarding service needs and future opportunities.
- Drafting quotations for service, maintenance, and upgrade engagements.
- Completing pre-mobilisation duties, including risk assessments, method statements, and project documentation preparation.
- Upholding a proactive Health & Safety culture on both client and company sites.
- Conducting switchgear servicing, maintenance, upgrades, and life-extension projects.
- Performing protection relay testing, upgrades, and commissioning.
- Diagnosing and rectifying switchgear malfunctions and resolving faults.
- Generation of technical reports and service documentation post-project completion.
- Collaborating closely with customers and internal teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.
- Overseeing and coordinating external subcontractors on-site as required.
- Engaging in continuous training and development for skill and industry knowledge reinforcement.
- Supporting out-of-hours emergency call-out requirements when needed.
- Ensuring timely submission of reports, expense claims, and associated documentation.
- Maintaining exceptional customer relationships and representing the business professionally.

Requirements
- Essential: Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer within an electrical engineering or switchgear environment.
- Thorough understanding of electrical switchgear—including its operation, maintenance, servicing, and fault-finding.
- Hands-on experience with switchgear upgrades, refurbishments, and life-extension projects.
- Ability to compile technical reports and service documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding competence.
- Excellent communication skills with proficiency in liaising with clients and internal teams.
- Capacity to manage fluctuating workloads, prioritise effectively, and work under pressure.
- Microsoft Office-proficient, with prior experience in its usage.
- Ideally, a formally trained (e.g., time-served in electrical engineering) ONC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Advantageous: Experience within offshore, marine, or mission-critical environments.
- Full UK driving license and willingness to travel extensively (including overseas and offshore assignments).
