About the Role
The Service Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality technical support and services for Hexagon Metrology’s CMM product portfolio. This includes installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of equipment, working directly with customers across the UK and Ireland. The role covers on-time delivery, budget adherence, and high standards.
The Field Service Engineer will primarily travel locally within their assigned area, with occasional UK-wide assignments as required to meet customer needs. This position provides an opportunity to apply technical skills in a dynamic, customer-focused environment with a global leader in metrology technology.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Service Delivery
- Install and commission new equipment at customer sites
- Perform scheduled maintenance, calibrations, and repairs to meet operational standards
- Diagnose faults at component/module level and prepare clear, detailed service reports
- Ensure all work adheres to Hexagon and customer safety policies
Customer Interaction
- Communicate effectively with customers pre-sale, during visits, and post-service
- Educate customers on equipment care and preventative maintenance strategies
- Maintain customer satisfaction through professional, timely service delivery
- Assist in scheduling and resource coordination with Service Manager/Service Coordinator for optimised workloads

Team Support & Collaboration
- Share technical knowledge, mentor apprentices and junior engineers
- Work with internal teams and factory support to resolve complex technical issues
- Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and best practices
Compliance & Documentation
- Update service management systems with accurate, detailed records
- Adhere to deadlines for all administrative tasks and procedural requests

Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise
- Preferred: HNC or Degree in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in relevant technical fields
- Proficient in diagnostic and fault-finding techniques
- Strong IT skills (especially in Windows-based environments)
Interpersonal Skills
- Confident and professional with excellent communication skills
- Ability to build trust with customers and peers while demonstrating integrity
- Practical and solutions-oriented, with strong problem-solving abilities
Organisational & Adaptive Skills
- Self-motivated with independent time-management skills
- Capable of meeting deadlines while prioritising multiple service requests
- Flexible and adaptable to dynamic customer needs and schedules
