About the Role
You’ll join the UK Materials and Structural Analysis Field Service Team, specialising in servicing Electron Microscopes (Transmission Electron Microscopy). This role offers flexibility, with a travel requirement of up to 30% of your time, primarily as visiting customer sites in the UK—and possible deployment across Europe.
An ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, international environment, demonstrates proactive Problem-solving skills, and values continuous professional growth. This position delivers multi-divisional challenges within a dynamic, innovative workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Service & Technical Support
- Perform field service activities, including:
- On-site installation, upgrades, maintenance, and system repairs
- Troubleshooting hardware and software issues of varying complexity
- Coordinating work schedules with colleagues, service operations, and management
- Train customers in safe and effective use of high-tech instruments
- Provide proactive support through telephone and email communications
- Ensuring customer success with instrument operations and troubleshooting
- Maintaining timely, accurate service reports and expense documentation

Customer Engagement & Sales
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience to achieve satisfaction and loyalty
- Identify and provide sales leads to account managers
- Provide feedback to support teams—enabling continuous improvement in system documentation and procedures
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Preferred: MEng in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering
- Acceptable: BEng or equivalent high-tech experience (e.g., instrumentation, electronics, or physics)
Technical Abilities
- Analytical troubleshooting (visualising problems and devising solutions)
- High hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- TCP/IP networking experience
- Independent, remote working skills, with ability to connect with colleagues on-site or globally

Location & Orientation
- More Than: Willing to relocate at own expense to the Oxford/Newbury/Swindon area (relocation package unavailable)
- Clean driving license required
Additional Considerations
- Knowledge of Electron Microscopes is an asset, but not mandatory
