About the Role
As a Field Service Engineer II, you will travel to customer sites to work on a variety of automation solutions, including:
- Material handling systems
- Assembly lines
- Robotic welding cells
- Custom automated equipment and solutions
Your primary role involves repairing, retrofitting, designing, building, programming, and deploying these solutions. Experience in heavy controls and familiarity with Beckhoff systems is preferred.
Additional travel pay (per hour) is provided for qualifying work assignments.
What You’ll Do
- Travel to customer sites on short notice to perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance, which may require long hours, overnight work, weekends, and holidays.
- Complete a Field Service Report for each customer service call.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain:
- Robot controllers
- Electrical control devices
- Mechanical units
- Transfer devices
- Peripheral equipment
- Maintain a service tool kit and documentation to respond quickly to customer issues.
- Provide telephone-based troubleshooting support to resolve operational problems with robotics or associated equipment on an as-needed basis.
- Program and edit robot control paths to maintain, restore, or optimize system performance.
- Conduct electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic debugging, as well as:
- Peripheral device programming
- Machine PLC programming
- Machine coordinated debug, power-up, and validation
- Install and repair industrial electronic equipment, including:
- I/O networks
- Data highways
- Variable speed drives
- Process control equipment

Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience (calculated as 2 years of experience for each year of academic study).
- Experience: 3+ years in:
- Automated equipment build
- Troubleshooting & maintenance of automated/robotic cells
- Preferred:
- Current or prior experience at JR Automation
- Experience in the automation industry
- Technical Training: Master certification preferred in:
- Automated equipment maintenance
- Troubleshooting of robotic cells
- PLC/HMI reprogramming
Skills & Qualities
- Ability to diagnose, discuss, and repair operational and process issues reported by customers.
- Intermediate-to-expert proficiency in:
- Schematic interpretation
- Robotics, electrical troubleshooting, and PLC/HMI programming
- Mechanical aptitude with a focus on safety and quality.

Additional Details
- Travel: Up to 75% of time (domestic or international, depending on assignments).
- Training: Must complete Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) training while employed.
