Field Service Engineer

Location: Northampton area (Corby / Kettering / Northamptonshire, UK), with European coverage

Salary & Benefits: cGBP 36,000 + generous benefits + company van + exceptional allowances + expenses Genuine realistic 1st year earnings: GBP 55,000 — GBP 60,000

Our client is part of an established Group specialising in bespoke materials handling solutions for diverse global customers and industries. As part of their continued strategic growth, they are recruiting a dynamic, multi-skilled Field Service Engineer to join their professional engineering service team. This role will involve:

  • Installing and maintaining handling solutions
  • Supporting customers across the UK and internationally

About the Role

Reporting to the Service Manager, the ideal candidate will:

  • Understand both reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Work electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in a customer-facing environment
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and satisfaction

Responsibilities

In this field-based technical role, you will:

Service & Maintenance

  • Carry out preventative service maintenance, repairs, and fault diagnosis for customers' equipment and third-party systems (on and off-site)
  • Respond to reactive service calls with speed and efficiency
  • Clearly communicate activities, requirements, and progress to customers
  • Complete detailed job sheets, documenting faults and repairs
  • Train customer technicians (where required) on equipment usage, service, and maintenance

Installation & Commissioning

  • Assist with installation and commissioning of machines
  • Work under Health and Safety compliance
  • Operate with minimal supervision, meeting deadlines

Miscellaneous

  • Travel frequently between UK and European customer sites
  • Possibly work additional hours as needed to ensure customer satisfaction

Requirements

Experience & Skills

✅ Solid background in plant and equipment maintenance (preferably within a maintenance environment) ✅ Experience with materials handling equipment and automatic process machinery ✅ Strong mechanical aptitude with expertise in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems ✅ Willingness to travel, adapt to different environments, and work with little supervision ✅ Well-organised and self-motivated, able to prioritise tasks efficiently

Licences & Dispositions

🚗 Full UK driving license (#1 requirement) 📞 Ability to work flexible hours (including weekends/emergencies)
