About the Role
A long-established supplier of renewable energy technology seeks an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about sustainable energy solutions, working with a close-knit team that values environmental responsibility and practical problem-solving.
The company prioritises a field service approach, focusing on proactive and reactive maintenance across biomass boiler systems—key to clean heating solutions in Scotland’s remote and rural regions. You’ll travel extensively, maintaining equipment on customer sites and ensuring systems remain reliable and compliant for both environmental and health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Repair and service biomass boilers – Fault-finding, troubleshooting, and routine servicing to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and thermal issues.
- Detailed maintenance recording – Logging all tasks, inspections, and repairs on the company’s maintenance systems for compliance and future reference.
- Standards compliance – Strict adherence to Health & Safety (H&S) regulations, environmental codes, and industry best practices in renewable energy maintenance.
- Remote and reactive work –
- Travel the full breadth of Scotland as a home-based engineer, with flexibility to work independently when covering assignments across remote regions.
- Join a rotational call-out roster for urgent after-hours or emergency maintenance.
- Occasional overnight stays (a perk of the role!) for system checks, refurbishments, or snow-clearance requirements—especially relevant in the challenging Scottish winters.
- Customer collaboration – Liaise with clients to explain technical issues, recommend solutions, and coordinate scheduled or emergency visits to optimise system performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
