Purpose of the Job
- Job Title: Field Service Engineer
- Work Location: Liverpool or Aberdeen (with regular travel across the UK, overseas, offshore, and in marine environments)
- Core Responsibility: Ensuring the safe and efficient execution of all service-related projects, predominantly involving servicing, upgrades, and life extension of switchgear and related equipment.
The role demands providing ** customers with an exceptional experience of the company’s products and services**. Work will be carried out across the company’s offices/workshops and customer sites, including sites within the United Kingdom, international locations, offshore, and marine-based environments.
Key Deliverables
As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for (though not limited to):
- Handling Enquiries & Technical Support:
- Fielding queries from existing customers regarding:
- Technical support
- Advice on future service offerings
- Fielding queries from existing customers regarding:
- Generating Quotations: Producing technical and financial quotations for service-related work.
- Pre-Mobilisation Tasks:
- Completing project-specific Risk Assessments
- Preparing Method Statements
- Ensuring all pre-service documentation is accurate and complete.
- Health & Safety Leadership:
- Promoting a proactive and collaborative health and safety culture across the company and customer sites.
- Technical Execution:
- Performing safe and efficient service-related tasks at all locations, including:
- Switchgear servicing, maintenance, and overhauls
- Switchgear upgrades and life extension projects
- Protection relay testing and upgrades
- Switchgear breakdown investigations and repairs
- Performing safe and efficient service-related tasks at all locations, including:
- Continuing Professional Development:
- Undertaking safety, competence, and task-specific training as required by the company.
- Out-of-Hours Operations:
- Being available for participation in emergency call-out services as needed.
- Reporting & Compliance:
- Submitting service reports and expenses in a timely manner.
- Flexibility & Responsibility:
- The company may introduce additional duties or missions as operational needs dictate.

Reports To & Accountability
- Primary Reporting Line: Service Supervisor
- Secondary Reporting: Technical & Service Director
- Direct Management: No direct reporting responsibilities, but expected to take a lead role when working with sub-contractors on field assignments.

- Engaging competently with UK and overseas customers.
- Collaborating with internal departments critical to delivering an effective and seamless service.

Education & Experience Requirements
- Formal Qualifications:
- Ideally, hold time-served apprenticeship qualifications in:
- Electrical engineering or related discipline
- Minimum qualification: ONC (Ordinary National Certificate) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent equivalent.
- Proven experience in technical report production.
- Ideally, hold time-served apprenticeship qualifications in:
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong understanding of switchgear principles, including:
- Operation
- Maintenance
- Fault finding and repair/remediation.
- Strong understanding of switchgear principles, including:
- Specific Field Experience:
- Offshore and marine working knowledge and adaptability.
- Demonstratable experience in working within customer-focused, high-challenge technical environments.
- Soft Skills:
- Highly structured and methodical problem-solving approach.
- Self-direction, genuine commitment to equality and safety.
- Technical Proficiencies:
- IT competencies, particularly familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
