Job Description

£43,500 & £1000 Joining Bonus Plus Company Van

Location: Coventry/field-based with frequent travel and occasional nights away

Working days: Monday to Friday, overtime available

Working hours: 08:00 to 16:00 when based from Coventry, from other locations will be 8 8-hour working day

We’re looking for a skilled and proactive Field Service Technician to join our Service Market team. In this role, you’ll support the Volvo dealer network with pre-delivery inspections, repairs, and technical expertise, ensuring every vehicle meets our exacting standards. You’ll also work on used vehicles, assist with on-site diagnosis, and contribute to reducing costs while maintaining top-quality service.

Who Are You and Your New Colleagues?

Ideally, you come from a PSV or HGV truck background with hands-on workshop experience, but are now looking for a more customer-facing role. You’re someone who thrives on problem-solving, delivering excellence, and making a real difference to customers, while enjoying a role that combines technical work with customer interaction.

To Succeed, You’ll Bring

  • A full UK driving licence (PSV licence preferred but not essential)
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with the ability to read schematics and circuit diagrams
  • Ability to carry out/repair electrical wiring in a range of vehicles
  • Knowledge of diagnostic tools for vehicle electrical and electronics
  • Strong manual skills and precision in repair and testing
  • Organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • An understanding of contractual obligations and the ability to interpret wording
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A solid technical understanding of vehicle systems, with the willingness to keep learning about our product range and the latest industry legislation

You’ll report directly to the Service Manager – UK and Ireland and be part of a passionate, supportive team. Day to day, you’ll collaborate with technical experts, dealer network colleagues, Bodybuilders and wider support teams across the UK to deliver a seamless experience for both colleagues and customers.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) on new vehicles and carry out necessary repairs.
  • Support the dealer network in delivering PDIs and repairs on-site.
  • Inspect, maintain, and rectify used vehicles efficiently.
  • Fit additional vehicle equipment, including CCTV, USB ports, and monitors.
  • Assist with storage procedures, vehicle movements, and preparation.
  • Support service market teams with on-site diagnostics, investigations, and rectifications.
  • Oversee bodybuilder quality inspections and report accurately on all work carried out.
  • Contribute to cost management while maintaining Volvo’s standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental care.
