Field Service Engineer

Location: Field-Based (Greater Manchester Area) Salary: £45,000 + Benefits Job Type: Full Time, Permanent


The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join a global precision equipment manufacturer.

This customer-facing role involves supporting the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of advanced manufacturing systems across the UK. You’ll collaborate with customers, sales teams, and engineering colleagues, applying technical expertise to maximise equipment performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and configure industrial equipment at customer sites.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults, delivering practical solutions.
  • Deliver customer training on equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Support customer process trials and application testing (onsite and in-house facilities).
  • Assist in system verification, testing, and optimisation during project delivery.
  • Compile technical service reports and documentation after site visits.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Aftermarket teams to identify opportunities for upgrades, service contracts, and spare parts.
  • Gather market feedback on customer needs, competitor activity, and product improvements.
  • Attend exhibitions, demonstrations, open days, and events as required.

About You

We seek an engineer with technical excellence and strong customer interaction skills. Ideal candidates will:

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer, Service Technician, or Maintenance Engineer in industrial/manufacturing settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics.
  • Experience in installation, servicing, fault-finding, and preventative maintenance.
  • Basic PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) knowledge considered an advantage.
  • Proficient in using engineering tools, test equipment, and diagnostics.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and service reporting software (SAP experience beneficial).
  • Full UK driving licence + willingness for extensive travel.
