Platform Engineer (Mission Operations) – Field Support
Salary: Up to £50,000 (DOE) Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities
Mission Operations & Platform Management
- Deliver safe and effective operation of SubSea Craft platforms across:
- Trials
- Demonstrations
- Operational evaluations
- Customer activities
- Deployed operations
- Conduct mission preparation, launch, recovery, piloting, execution, and post-mission activities for both aerial and maritime systems
- Operate advanced autonomous and remotely operated systems to support real-world customer, operational, and test objectives
- Act as a platform operator during customer demonstrations, training, trials, and deployments
- Execute missions in accordance with operating procedures, risk controls, and safety protocols
- Continuously improve operational procedures, checklists, and emergency protocols based on field experience and best practice

Deployment & Operational Support
- Deploy globally to support customer activities, trials, and operational events
- Be a deployable member of the Mission Success team, operating assets wherever required
- Mobilise, transport, set up, operate, and recover platforms, support equipment, and deployment assets across multiple locations
- Establish and operate temporary launch sites, workshops, and field facilities in expeditionary environments
- Collaborate with military, government, and industry stakeholders for mission success
- Be prepared for frequent international travel and extended deployments as part of core responsibilities
Platform Readiness & Technical Support
- Maintain assigned platforms and equipment in a safe, serviceable, and mission-ready state
- Conduct routine inspections, servicing, and basic fault diagnosis
- Support first-line troubleshooting and provide ** faults back to engineering teams**
- Manage batteries, payloads, spares, tools, and equipment for operational readiness
- Maintain detailed maintenance records and ensure proper accountability
- Assist in platform configuration and preparation for deployments, demonstrations, and customer engagement
Customer Delivery & Operational Excellence
- Build customer trust through professional conduct, safety-focused operations, and reliable delivery
- Represent SubSea Craft professionally during customer face-to-face activities and deployments
- Ensure successful mission outcomes through disciplined preparation and expert field support
Continuous Improvement & Mission Learning
- Capture operation observations, user feedback, and lessons identified in post-event debriefs
- Contribute to after-action reports, lessons learned documentation, and process improvements
- Propose opportunities to enhance platform reliability, performance, and deployment efficiency
Essential Skills & Experience
Core Requirements
✔ Experience operating unmanned systems, remotely operated platforms, drones, UAVs, USVs, autonomous tech, or related equipment ✔ Passionate about UAVs, USVs, robotics, FPV, autonomous systems, or similar fields ✔ Strong practical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to solve technical issues in dynamic field environments ✔ Comfortable working outdoors, on water, and in austere expeditionary conditions ✔ Ability to work independently while upholding high standards of safety, professionalism, and accountability ✔ Excellent organisational and communication skills ✔ Hold a full UK driving licence ✔ Possess (or be eligible to obtain) a UK Security Check (SC) or developed vetting (DV) ✔ Willingness to travel extensively internationally, often with short notice and for extended periods

Desirable (but not mandatory)
- Experience with multirotor, fixed-wind, FPV, or autonomous aerial systems
- Background in autonomous or remotely operated maritime systems
- UK CAA UAS qualifications (A2 CofC, GVC, RPC-Lv1 or equivalents)
- Powerboat or maritime qualifications (e.g., RYA Powerboat Level 2, MCA Sea Fisheries Certificates, etc.)
- Previous experience in military, maritime, offshore, emergency services, engineering, or defence sectors
- Experience supporting trials, customer demos, operational testing, or similar roles
