The Role
This contract position falls under the Training & Simulation division, focused on communications and technical support for large-scale DFWES exercises.
Key Duties
The Field Technician (Field Tech) will:
- Support the Systems Technician (Sys Tech) / Lead Field Technician, ensuring seamless communications network operations for DFWES exercises.
- Lead comms support independently for smaller DFWES exercises.

Core Responsibilities
Exercise-Specific Support
- Familiarise, plan, and maintain communications strategies and documentation.
- Deploy and maintain equipment and networks, including:
- Erection and alignment of masts, microwave links, DAN antennae, PTZ cameras, and GPS.
- On-site technical advice for Saab EXCON (Exercise Control) teams during exercises.
- Assist Sys/Lead Tech in constructing and testing:
- Communications networks across all exercise phases (large exercises).
- EXCON infrastructure (e.g., Portable Audio Gateway, OCVN link).
Technical & Analytical Support
- Document technical/comms data for exercise PXRs (Post-Exercise Reviews).
- Support MOUT/Urban Enhancements, involving:
- Indoor tracking equipment recce, modelling, setup, and operation.
- Observer Controller tablet setup with instruction for Mentors.
- Provide technical integration for AARs (After-Action Reviews).
- Assist analysts in data capture and statistical analysis as required.

Ad-hoc Contributions
- May act as Lead Technician if necessary.
- Attend training globally (e.g., driver training, DRT).
- Engage in Saab marketing, other projects, and cross-departmental support.
- Provide high-level technical support for Sys Techs in UK or Germany.
Requirements
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Valid UK Licence (B+E equivalent).
- In-date UK passport and eligibility to travel worldwide.
- Must pass a CONDO medical.
- Certifications preferred:
- CompTIA A+ (mandatory).
- CompTIA Network+ (desirable).
- Proficiency in Windows applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
- 1–3+ years of IT experience.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively as a self-patterner.
- Capacity to operate in austere conditions.
