Research Associate/Scientist – Field Trials (Plant Biology)
About the Role
At Wild Bio, we’re revolutionising crops to feed the world sustainably while enriching biodiversity. Our proprietary genetics platform taps into millions of years of wild plant evolution to enhance key crops—boosting yields and scaling methane/carbon mitigation. Tata Rural Innovation Agency-backed, we’re a fast-growing Oxford University spinout at the forefront of agri-bioscience.
We’re seeking a Research Associate or Scientist to drive our plant science research, with a focus on scaling traits from controlled environments to field trials. Your work will be instrumental in shaping the future of sustainable agriculture, improving global food security, and mitigating climate impacts.
Our Values
We prioritise three core values that define our culture and mission:
-
Curiosity We pursue groundbreaking discoveries by asking bold questions, exploring the unknown, and thriving on lifelong learning.
-
Community Collaboration and inclusion drive meaningful impact—both for people and the planet. We foster global connections to accelerate progress.
-
Courage We embrace risks, challenge the status quo, and champion our beliefs, even when it feels difficult.
Responsibilities
In this multi-faceted role, you will:
Field Trials & Experimental Design
- Lead the design, execution, and analysis of statistcally rigorous field trials in collaboration with CROs (Contract Research Organisations) and regulatory bodies.
- Implement best practices in crop breeding and gene-edited trait characterisation—transitioning experimental protocols from controlled environments to high- throughput field settings.
- Specify and justify data collection methods, ensuring accurate metrics for traits such as yield, resilience, or sustainability parameters.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
