About the Role
This critical role presents an exciting opportunity to investigate complex credit hire claims within a legal technical team.
The File Handler will conduct high-level investigations into contentious pre-litigated claims (valued over £25,000) on behalf of our clients.
As part of Keoghs, the team’s focus is on deterring exaggerated and inflated credit hire claims, saving businesses significant financial losses annually.
This in-demand role offers exceptional experience for candidates aiming to master claim investigation, ensuring we successfully challenge baseless claims at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will manage a portfolio of DA & NDA pre-litigated credit hire cases under direct supervision from a Technical Supervisor.
Primary Tasks Include:
- Review and analysis of all caseware, per client guidelines, across the claim's lifespan.
- Client relationship management; keeping the client’s best interests central to all decisions.
- Developing and maintaining a structured investigation strategy, balancing KYO (Keep It Out) methodologies.
- Negotiation of claims via all telephone communications with opposing solicitors.
- Consultation and liaison with insured parties where necessary.
- Stakeholder management via an ISO 9001-compliant Case Management System (CMS).
- Accurate completion of Management Information (MI) for monitoring and reporting purposes.
- Providing strategic feedback post-repudiation to pre-proceedings handlers and clients.
- Ensuring full SRA-compliance with best-case practice standards.

Working Hours
- Standard: 35 hrs/week
- Schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Mon-Fri), with 1hr allocated for lunch.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential:
✅ Proven track record handling complex credit hire claims, able to manage own caseload. ✅ [Education]: Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent + degree/LPC (preferable). ✅ Self-motivation & the ability to use initiative when identifying loopholes or strategies. ✅ Prioritisation skills; ability to triage workloads efficiently. ✅ Business communication; adaptive to both written and verbal clients/solicitors. ✅ Robust telephone negotiation techniques, ensuring amicable discussions while resisting unreasonable demands. ✅ Compliance awareness; demonstrating understanding of workflows, strategy adherence and maintaining professional detective-level analysis. ✅ Awareness of situational sensitivity, especially in vulnerable client interactions. ✅ Decision-making with objective reasoning under time pressures. ✅ Pressure resilience; managing frequent high-value case-loaded demands. ✅ IT competency: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook + familiarity with CMS (experience advantageous).
