About the Role

We are looking for an organised and proactive finance professional to join our close-knit team with big ambitions. This is a varied, hands-on role combining bookkeeping, payroll administration and financial analysis. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the day-to-day finance function while supporting the wider business with management reporting, budgeting and business analysis.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their finance experience within a dynamic and fast-growing SME and develop towards a more senior finance position over time.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Financial Management

  • Ensure financial data remains accurate and up-to-date across all finance systems
  • Process purchase invoices, supplier payments and customer receipts
  • Manage the sales and purchase ledgers
  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies
  • Accurately maintain and reconcile period end stock quantities and ledger balances
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities
  • Manage the quarterly VAT reporting cycles and submissions to HMRC
  • Monitor customer balances and support credit control activities
  • Manage supplier accounts, payment schedules and statement reconciliations

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Produce regular financial reports and KPI information
  • Provide profitability, margin and cost analysis across the business
  • Support annual budget preparation and routine forecasting
  • Assist with cash flow reporting and working capital monitoring
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis to support business decisions

Payroll

  • Oversee the monthly payroll process, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Maintain payroll records, employee changes and statutory deductions
  • Process pension contributions and payroll-related submissions
  • Reconcile payroll journals and payroll control accounts
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and HMRC requirements

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and controls
  • Assist with the implementation of finance systems and process automation
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience in bookkeeping or a finance analyst role
  • Strong working knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping
  • Payroll experience or a willingness to develop knowledge in this area
  • Good understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations
  • Experience supporting month-end reporting
  • Strong Excel knowledge and experience using accounting software (such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar ERP systems)
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Analytical with strong numerical skills
  • A proactive mindset with a desire to improve processes
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Confident communicator who enjoys working in a small but close-knit team
  • High level of integrity and able to maintain confidentiality when handling payroll and other key financial information

Job Type

This is a full time position, but we would be open to part time / flexible work hours for the right candidate
