Sureserve provide market leading compliance and energy services across the UK, with close to 5000 employees working from over 30 offices.

Sureserve is a trusted partner for housing associations, local authorities, and residents, delivering high-quality compliance and energy services. With nationwide reach, regional expertise, and a commitment to excellent service, we are well-positioned to support our clients now and in the future.

Overview of Role

This role plays a central part in supporting the finance function, with a strong focus on payroll accuracy, financial processing, and cross-team collaboration. It involves managing and validating payroll data, ensuring journals are correctly prepared and posted across multiple entities, and supporting reporting through calculations such as 12-month average pay. The position also acts as a key contract for payroll queries, handling weekly purchasing card transactions, and provides flexible support across purchase and sales ledger activities when required. In addition, the role contributes to wider finance team operations, assisting during busy periods, supporting ad hoc projects, and maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures, making it a varied and hands-on role within a dynamic finance environment.

This role requires the ability to work under pressure, to meet deadlines. It also requires the ability to engage and liaise successfully with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Input, verify, and process timesheets, holidays, absences, overtime, and other payroll variables prior to submission
  • Prepare and post payroll journals across multiple entities in line with the month-end timetable (ensure journals are accurately coded to the correct nominal codes, cost centres, and entities)
  • Prepare the 12-month average pay calculations for reporting
  • Acting as a point of contact for payroll-related queries from employees
  • Processing purchasing card transactions on a weekly basis & costing into MRI
  • Assisting with the Purchase and Sales Ledger when required for subsidiaries
  • Providing cover and support to the wider finance team when needed
  • To be involved in ad hoc projects and/or to complete any other task as reasonably requested by the finance department
  • These duties are not 'limited' or 'fixed' and you may be required to take on additional reasonable responsibilities, as our business needs change
  • Adherence to all company policies, procedures and work instructions as relevant

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
