Finance Assessment Officer – Finance Assessment Team
The Service & Team
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Finance Assessment Officer to join our Finance Assessment Team in a permanent, full-time role within The Safe and Caring Communities Service.
Our Charging and Assessment Team is a dynamic, friendly environment offering a hybrid working model. You’ll split your time between working on-site in one of our Bodmin, Truro, or Camborne offices and having the flexibility to work from home. The role also includes occasional in-person visits to support service users within the community.
The Role
You’ll play a vital part in conducting financial assessments (via phone and in-person) for individuals receiving care at home or residential services. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting financial assessments with service users and their families, ensuring they’re completed fairly, consistently, and promptly
- Providing funding and welfare benefit advice
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including care providers and operational teams
- Maintaining high-quality customer service in a public-facing role
- Subject to enhanced criminal record disclosure checks (DBS)
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Essential Criteria:
✔ Strong communication skills – exceptional verbal and written English (essential for public sector contact) ✔ Attention to detail – precision in handling assessments ✔ Self-motivation & teamwork – ability to work both independently and collaboratively ✔ Literacy & numeracy – GCSEs grade 9-4 (A-C) in Maths and English or equivalent work experience ✔ Microsoft Office proficiency – experience with Outlook, Word, and Excel ✔ Organisational skills – diary management, prioritisation, and problem-solving

Desirable (Training Provided):
- Basic knowledge of Adult Social Care or Department of Work & Pensions benefits (full training available)
- Existing customer service experience in a care or welfare setting
