Are you looking for a varied finance role where you can develop your skills, work with a supportive team and gain exposure to a broad range of accounting activities?

We're looking for a Finance Assistant to join our Yeovil-based finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with finance or bookkeeping experience who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems and ensuring everything is completed accurately and efficiently.

Working closely with experienced colleagues, you'll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the finance function across a number of businesses.

The Opportunity

You'll be involved in everything from processing invoices and supplier payments to bank reconciliations, month-end activities and supporting wider finance projects. It's a great opportunity to broaden your experience and build a strong foundation for a long-term career in finance.

What You'll Be Doing

As Finance Assistant, you'll support the finance team across a range of activities, including:

  • Processing supplier invoices and maintaining accurate records
  • Managing supplier payments and resolving queries
  • Reconciling supplier statements
  • Allocating incoming receipts and supporting sales ledger activities
  • Assisting with credit control where required
  • Completing daily bank reconciliations
  • Supporting balance sheet reconciliations and month-end processes
  • Assisting with accruals, prepayments and journal preparation
  • Preparing information for audits and financial reporting
  • Maintaining finance systems and supporting reporting requirements
  • Assisting with process improvements and finance projects
  • Providing general support across the wider finance team

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with numbers, takes pride in producing accurate work and has a positive, team-focused approach.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a finance, accounts or bookkeeping role
  • A good understanding of accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Office skills
  • The ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues
  • A proactive and reliable approach

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Experience using accounting or ERP systems
  • Exposure to reconciliations and month-end activities
  • AAT qualification or current AAT studies
