Finance Assistant

Job Summary The Finance Assistant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day execution of core finance processes. This is a highly administrative role focused on invoicing, reconciliations, expenses, and maintaining accurate financial records.
Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager and Finance Manager, the role provides exposure to key finance activities and is well suited to someone looking to build a long-term career in finance.
Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Receivable Process supplier and customer invoices accurately and in a timely manner Assist with raising and posting customer invoices Allocate receipts and maintain accurate customer records Perform reconciliation of supplier and customer ledgers, investigating discrepancies Assist with monitoring aged receivables and follow up on outstanding balances Respond to supplier and customer queries in a timely manner

Finance Administration Upload financial data into the accounting system Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation Ensure all transactions are correctly recorded and filed Support general finance administration across the team
Payments & Expenses Assist with the preparation of weekly payment runs in line with approval processes Process employee expenses in accordance with company policy Maintain accurate records of payments and supporting documentation
Reconciliations Perform regular bank reconciliations within the accounting system, ensuring completeness and accuracy Investigate and highlight discrepancies where required
VAT & Compliance Support Assist in the preparation of VAT returns and supporting schedules Ensure documentation is accurate and readily available for review
Cash Flow & Reporting Support Update and maintain the cash flow forecast file Provide support to the Finance team with reporting and data preparation
Skills & Experience Essential Currently studying towards a professional finance qualification (AAT, ACCA, or CIMA). Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Excellent organisational and administrative skills. Strong numerical aptitude and confidence working with financial data. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proactive, reliable, and eager to learn. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or bookkeeping role, including internships or placements. Exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliation processes.

Desirable Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, NetSuite, or similar systems. Interest in retail, fashion, luxury goods, or ecommerce businesses.
What Success Looks Like Accurate and timely processing of financial transactions. Well-maintained and fully reconciled supplier, customer, and bank accounts. High standards of accuracy and attention to detail across all finance activities. Effective support provided to colleagues across the Finance team. Strong organisation of financial records and supporting documentation. Positive contribution to the efficiency and continuous improvement of finance processes.
