Job Description: Finance Assistant
Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with them in the role of Finance Assistant.
In this hands-on position, you will support Operational Finance across multiple key areas, including:
- Cash transaction processing
- Invoice query resolution for the Accounts Payable (AP) team
- Assistance with monthly and yearly financial reports
- Supporting the Control Accounts for the Operational Finance team
This role reports to the Senior Financial Accountant, offering close collaboration with the Deputy Chief Cashier while being an integral member of the broader financial accounting team. You will engage with:
- Operational finance teams
- Accounts Payable (AP)
- Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Treasury
To ensure smooth day-to-day operations, this position requires onsite working.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Processing
- Raise Sales Invoices and Requisitions for external customers and suppliers.
- Process cash transactions, ensuring efficient and timely entry into the finance system.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Maintain records for:
- Collection of patients' valubles
- Handling of patient money and returns
- Perform data manipulation and analysis using:
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills (including Formulas and Pivot Tables)
- Create and maintain Control Accounts for the Operational Finance team.

Working Schedule
- Onsite role at Southampton General Hospital
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Expectation to attend wards on a daily basis.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
Essential Criteria
- Capable of, or currently working towards, an AAT Level 3 apprenticeship.
- Previous experience in clerical, finance, or customer service roles.
- A/AS-levels equivalent to GCSEs (grades 9-5; A-C)* in:
- Mathematics
- English
- Practical knowledge of finance procedures:
- Petty cash systems
- Accounting systems
- VAT
Desirable Criteria
- AAT Level 3 apprenticeship currently underway or completed.

- Robust admin and clerical skills for efficient record management.
- Proficient advanced keyboard skills for data entry.
