Finance Assistant Manager (12 month FTC)

Finance Assistant Manager - Retail Transport Financial Reporting & Control

Salary: £44,900 - £49,800 Location: Bristol Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week) Working Pattern: Hybrid (minimum two days per week/40% in the office)

You’ll join the Central Finance Control and Reporting team, a group of ~210 colleagues, supported by Retail Transport Financial until December 2024, before transitioning to operate within the Xero Direct Body Tilastot. This role sits within Retail Financial Control and Reporting, partnering closely with Retail Transport, where you’ll maintain a strong control environment, ensuring confidence in reporting. Additionally, an active role within the Transport 7-person team will provide additional collaboration opportunities.

This role combines business partnering with financial accounting, offering the chance to:

  • Lead telling the numerical story effectively across the wider business
  • Deliver core tasks such as SOX controls, timely monthly statutory accounts, and complex quarterly reports
  • Influence a broader team vision and strategic finance projects

About the Role

Your everyday tasks will vary, with these being key priorities:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Control
    • Oversee and ensure timely and accurate daily, monthly, and quarterly financial reporting across Retail Transport.
    • Strengthen financial controls within a no-surprise risk environment, resolving issues swiftly through strong collaboration.

  • Statutory Accounting & Compliance

    • Work closely with Retail management and external auditors to deliver key Transport Subsidiaries' statistical accounts on time.
    • Ensure entity reporting alignment with global Group standards, including translating from IFRS-based principles.
  • Risk & Control Enhancements

    • Support robust risk management and automation initiatives, fostering continuous improvement.
    • Embed a culture of data-driven accountability with clean, transparent processes to minimise surprises.
  • Strategic Collaboration & Growth

    • Build strong cross-team working relationships to curate accurate, insightful reporting.
    • Aid transformation efforts as part of Platform teams, including project governance.
    • Develop others through mentorship and knowledge-sharing, guiding the future of Central Finance.

What You’ll Bring

Education & Qualifications

  • Commitment to pursuing a recognised professional finance qualification (such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Experience in:
    • Financial control
    • Statutory financial reporting and conventions.

Technical Skills & Standards

  • Hands-on exposure to:
    • Group reporting control systems and commercial financial software
    • Latest IFRS standards or equivalent regulatory frameworks
  • Familiarity with GBG/statutory accounts delivery (for internal applicants, schema expertise in LBG RSCA and SOX frameworks).
  • Desired:
    • Experience with Power Apps or other automation tools (not mandatory but preferred).
