About The Role

This summer placement provides students with hands-on experience within the finance team of a major construction and infrastructure project environment. The placement is designed to develop an understanding of how finance supports project delivery through rotations across Cost Control, Accounting, and Cost Assurance teams.

The successful candidate will gain practical experience in project financial management, cost reporting, forecasting, financial controls, auditing, and business partnering. Working alongside experienced finance professionals, the role will provide exposure to a large-scale construction projects and the financial disciplines required to deliver them successfully.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing project expenditure against budget and forecast.
  • Support preparation of weekly and monthly cost reports.
  • Analyse labour, plant, materials and subcontractor costs.
  • Support the maintenance of project cost codes and work breakdown structures.
  • Help investigate cost variances and identify financial trends.
  • Participate in project performance reviews with Finance, Commercial and Operations teams.
  • Support forecasting exercises and cost-to-complete assessments.
  • Review & Re-allocation of cost of staff
  • Support OTR teams as required

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • Currently studying towards a degree in Accounting & Finance, Maths, Business Management or Economics
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel capability.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and work across multiple teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Interest in construction, infrastructure or project finance.
  • Experience using Microsoft Power BI or data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of accounting or commercial principles gained through study.
  • Previous work experience in a business environment.
  • Confident in English speaking and writing.
  • Ability to work and build relationships in a diverse team ranging from Production, Commercial, Finance and Cost Control department.
  • To respect reporting deadlines.
  • Previous Edifice experience will be of benefit.
