About the Role
We are working with a highly regarded London-based boutique hedge fund to hire a Finance Automation Analyst on a permanent basis. The firm manages a multi-asset portfolio across a fund of funds and liquid assets. This is a broad role - the successful hire will become a shared technical resource across the group, supporting multiple teams with data, reporting and process automation.
The role has been created to drive the firm's automation agenda forward. You will own and develop their PowerQuery, VBA and Excel infrastructure, build and maintain reporting tools and dashboards, and help the team move towards SQL and Power BI over time. Day-to-day, this means working closely with finance and operations staff to identify manual processes, design solutions and deliver them independently. There is no direct fund accounting ownership in this role - the focus is entirely on data tooling, process improvement and making the team more efficient.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
