Job Summary
The Finance Business Partner will act as a strategic business partner and advisor to the Head of Finance, supporting Steam Thermal Solutions (STS) in developing and implementing financial strategies aligned with Group and business objectives, ensuring maximum returns across critical operational areas.
As a trusted collaborator, the role holder will provide leadership, challenge, and guidance to execute the business strategy and achieve financial targets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Scope of Responsibility
Support key business areas under Steam Central Functions:
- Innovation & Product Development (IPM)
- Steam Digital & Services
- Global Oil, Gas & Chemicals (GOGC)
- Sustainability/Green Tech (GT)
Direct Reports:
- Management Accountants for IPM, Steam Digital & Services, GOGC, and GT
- Dotted-line reporting responsibility for Cotopaxi Finance Accountant
2. Key Responsibilities
Line Management
- Shape objectives and enhancements for direct reports, including:
- Performance reviews
- Talent development and succession planning
- Staff turnover management
- Talent promotion and support
Financial Planning & Analysis

Budget and Forecast Ownership:
- Develop accurate, transparent planning and forecasting aligned with divisional strategy and Group requirements.
- Allocate future capital needs and prioritise investment projects.
- Ensure cost optimisation and investment effectiveness.
- Oversee balance sheet forecasts for management reporting.

Performance Review:
- Analyze and report financial/operational variances against plans/forecasts.
- Provide financial rigour to budgets, commercial arrangements, and business cases to meet governance expectations.
- Oversee weekly orders/sales forecasts for Group reporting, ensuring robust variance analysis.
- Monthly management reporting for business areas, including:
- Budget variance analysis.
- Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting.
- Improve balance sheet reconciliations and streamline complex processes for management accountants.

Governance & Reporting:
- Financial planning coordination (central, divisional, opco budgets).
- Support financial oversight of business cases and reporting for divisional projects.
- Global financial consolidation, with governance and Investment/Budget reporting.

Business Insights:
- Develop and manage fishl financial planning & analysis (PF&A) processes and tools for global efficiency.
- Feed data-driven analysis for strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with opcos to align financial targets with Steam & Group goals.
- Conduct KPI monitoring and risk mitigation for business areas.

Financial Modelling & Projects

Strategic Financial Modelling:
- Build/implement financial models for scenario analysis, project/product evaluation, and sensitivity testing.
- Support decision-making with financial impact forecasting and risk mitigation analysis.

Project Expenditure Oversight:
- Evaluate and report on capital/operational expenditures.
- Monitor projects to ensure alignment with budgets and strategic goals.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

Stakeholder Relationships:
- Build partnerships with internal/external stakeholders in Finance, Divisions, and broader business.
- Advocate for Central Finance’s value across the organisation.

Cross-Functional Support:
- Collaborate with Key Operational Heads to provide financial insights, support budgetary control, and drive resource allocation.
- Drive alignment of financial recommendations with Steam’s divisional team & revenue goals.
- Liaise with Group Legal, Group Tax, and Supply/Sales operatives to coordinate projects.

Financial Reporting & Communication:
- Prepare/present financial reports and analyses to senior management.
- Work with Revenues & Royal Cartoon & Recharge processes (overview and coordination).
- Ensure accurate/reconciled management accounts in sync with accounting guidelines.
- Collaborate with Financial Reporting Teams to improve recharge processes & Peterowners’ coordination.
Ad-Hoc Work
- Support Finance leadership with financial projects, audits, and process tasks.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience & Qualifications
- A professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA).
- Substantial post-qualification experience in a commercial finance department.
- Ability to deliver market-benchmark commercial excellence in a multinational environment.
Analytical & Technical Skills
- Analytical Thinking: Interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and translate them into actionable insights.
- Financial Acumen: In-depth knowledge of forecasting, financial performance, and investment scenarios.
- Problem-Solving: Identify financial issues and propose improvements to meet business goals.
- Adaptability: Assess evolving business needs and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Financial Software Proficiency: Skilled in advanced Excel, financial modeling, and ERP/accounting tools.
