Our Client

Mackie Myers have partnered with a large and growing multi-academy trust to recruit a Finance Business Partner into a newly established Financial Planning & Analysis team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high profile transformation programme and play a key role in shaping how finance supports a diverse portfolio of schools.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Finance Business Partner will act as a trusted advisor to a portfolio of schools and head office departments, providing commercial insight, financial challenge, and decision support.

This role sits within a newly formed FP&A team and will be instrumental in embedding a true business partnering culture across the organisation. Working closely with school leaders, business managers, and senior stakeholders, you will support budgeting, forecasting, financial sustainability planning, and management reporting while helping drive a programme of continuous improvement across finance.

The successful candidate will be confident building relationships, challenging constructively, and turning financial data into meaningful insights that support operational and strategic decisions.

Main Duties

  • Act as the Finance Business Partner for a portfolio of schools, building strong relationships with budget holders and senior stakeholders
  • Support the development of long term financial sustainability plans, helping stakeholders make informed decisions around resources and investment
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting activities for your areas of responsibility, ensuring plans are robust, accurate, and aligned to organisational objectives
  • Develop financial models and scenario plans to support operational and strategic decision making
  • Produce insightful monthly management reports, providing meaningful commentary and analysis of financial performance
  • Investigate variances, identify risks and opportunities, and provide clear recommendations to stakeholders
  • Support the development of dashboard reporting and management information to improve financial visibility across the organisation
  • Deliver training and guidance to non finance stakeholders, helping improve financial understanding and accountability
  • Contribute to finance transformation initiatives, process improvements, and the continued development of the business partnering model

The Successful Candidate

  • Studying towards, part qualified, or newly qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA accountant
  • Experience in a management accounting and finance business partnering role with regular exposure to budget holders and operational stakeholders
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling experience
  • Excellent Excel skills with the ability to turn complex financial data into meaningful insights for non finance audiences
  • Confident communicator who can build credibility, challenge constructively, and influence decision making
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • A proactive and solutions focused mindset with an interest in driving process improvements and supporting change
  • Experience within education, not for profit, public sector, or another complex stakeholder driven environment would be advantageous but is not essential
