About The Role
At West Northamptonshire Council, it’s about our people and the difference they make. As a Finance Business Partner, you’ll play a key role in supporting senior leaders and services to deliver strong financial performance and sustainable outcomes for our communities. Working within our Strategic Finance team, you’ll provide high-quality financial advice, insight, and challenge, helping to shape decision-making and drive value for money across the organisation.
This is a high-profile and varied role where you’ll work closely with Directors, Heads of Service, and budget managers, contributing to strategic planning, service improvement, and the delivery of the Council’s priorities. You’ll be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team, where innovation and continuous improvement are encouraged and supported.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Act as a trusted financial partner, working cross-functionally with services to support financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
- Ensure robust monitoring and risk management are in place
- Provide clear advice and analysis on revenue, capital, and project activity—helping managers understand financial performance and make informed decisions
- Offer financial support and business partnering to Northampton Partnership Homes, collaborating to improve service delivery and financial performance
- Contribute to strategic financial planning, including the Medium Term Financial Plan
- Support the annual closing of accounts
- Drive improvements to financial systems and processes, enhancing governance and efficiency
- Develop financial awareness across services, offering consistent guidance, challenge, and training to foster a strong financial culture

About You
Key Requirements
- A qualified finance professional with strong experience in financial planning, analysis, and business partnering
- Confident in interpreting complex financial information and translating it for non-financial stakeholders
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset—equipped to challenge constructively and drive continuous improvement
- Excellent organisation, adaptability, and ability to prioritise competing demands while maintaining high standards
- Experience in, or an understanding of, the public sector or housing-related services (highly desirable)
