Department: Central Finance Reports To: Head of Finance, Steam Thermal Solutions (STS)
About the Role
The Finance Business Partner will act as a key strategic business partner and advisor, aligning financial strategies with Steam Thermal Solutions (STS) and Group objectives to maximise returns across core operational areas.
With direct responsibility over:
- Innovation & Product Development (IPM)
- Steam Digital & Services
- Global Oil, Gas & Chemicals (GOGC)
- Sustainability/Green Tech (GT)
The role holder will set financial direction, challenge decision-making, and deliver accountable results through strategic leadership and data-driven analysis.
Direct Line Management
- Direct Reports: Management Accountants for Innovation & Product Development (IPM), Steam Digital & Services, Global Oil, Gas & Chemicals (GOGC), and Sustainability/Green Tech (GT)
- Dotted Line Reporting: Support to Cotopaxi Finance Accountant
Key Responsibilities
1. Line Management & Talent Development
- Guide and support direct reports to achieve high team performance through:
- Conducting performance reviews
- Developing individual career and learning plans
- Managing succession planning and turnover
- Fostering talent attraction and retention
2. Financial Planning & Analysis
- Own budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with division strategy while maintaining operational efficiency and cost control
- Collaborate on capital expenditure planning, prioritising investments across global business areas
- Monitor balance sheet forecasts for management reporting integrity
- Regularly assess performance against plans, challenging stakeholders on operational/financial variances
3. Financial Reporting & Oversight
- Oversee weekly sales/order forecasts with rigorous variance analysis
- Lead monthly management reporting subs across business areas (aligning KPIs, analysing deviations, improving reconciliations)
- Coordinate Tax support (e.g., R&D claims) in collaboration with Group Tax
- Global consolidation of budgets with robust governance and change control

4. Budget & Operational Governance
- Approve budgets, business cases, and capital investments across defined areas
- Support long-term strategic alignment between divisional and corporate objectives
5. Financial Modelling & Decision Support
- Develop and maintain models assessing business scenarios (e.g., capital projects, product evaluation)
- Conduct sensitivity analysis to mitigate risks in financial decisions
- Monitor capital and operational expenditure for timely and accurate reporting
6. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with operational heads, legal, finance, and taxonomy teams to align strategic insights with commercial goals
- Liaise with Sales, Supply, Legal, and Tax on operations like royalty and recharge processes
- Engage finance reporting teams to streamline recharge processes and conduct complex queries
7. Audit & Ad-Hoc Support
- Assist with audit assessments as required
- Contribute to exceptional finance/operational initiatives as directed by Leadership
Qualifications & Skills
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA)
- Significant post-qualification experience in a commercial finance role within a multinational environment
- Proven ability to deliver market-leading financial performance
Core Competencies
- Analytical Rigour: Translating complex financial data into strategic insights
- Financial Acumen: Mastery of forecasting, performance tracking, and cost efficiency
- Solution-Driven Thinking: Resolving financial anomalies and optimising resources
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced Excel, financial modelling, and ERP accounting software (SAP*)
- Interpersonal & Presentation Skills: Clarity in communicating financial insights to non-specialists
- Business Strategy: Bridging finance and operations to drive commercial excellence
- Compliance: Rigorous adherence to regulatory and corporate policies
