Role Overview
We are looking for a commercially focused Finance Business Partner to play a pivotal role in supporting strategic decision-making across VIVO. This is far more than a traditional finance role—you'll work alongside senior operational leaders, providing financial insight, challenge and guidance that helps shape business performance, improve profitability and support the successful delivery of our contracts.
As a trusted advisor to the business, you will develop strong relationships with Operational Directors, budget holders and senior stakeholders, ensuring finance is embedded at the heart of decision-making. You'll help leaders understand the financial impact of operational decisions, identify risks and opportunities, and provide the analysis needed to support sustainable growth and commercial success.
- Ownership of management accounts: Ensuring accurate monthly reporting, financial analysis and forecasting.
- Budgeting and forecasting: Working closely with operational teams to lead annual budgeting and regular forecasting activities, providing clear financial insight that supports both short and long-term planning.
- Performance analysis: Analysing operational and commercial performance, using financial data and key performance indicators to identify trends, challenge assumptions and drive improvements.
- Revenue and cost management: Working closely with commercial and Billable Works teams to ensure revenues, costs and work in progress are accurately reflected within the financial accounts.
- Billing and cash collection: Helping to drive effective billing and cash collection, identifying issues early, supporting commercial discussions and ensuring strong cash performance across the contract.
- Business initiatives: Contributing to wider business initiatives, including bids, mobilisation activities, business cases and change programmes, providing financial modelling, analysis and commercial support where required.
- Reporting and analysis: Producing ad hoc reporting and strategic analysis to support business planning and investment decisions.
- Leadership involvement: Attending leadership meetings, influencing decision-making and providing constructive challenge where appropriate.
- Relationship building: Building strong relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors and advisers, while ensuring financial reporting remains accurate, compliant and delivered in line with group requirements.
- Continuous improvement: Opportunities to streamline financial processes, improve reporting, introduce greater automation and strengthen financial governance across the business.
- Team leadership: Leading, coaching and developing members of the finance team, supporting their professional growth while ensuring high standards of performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
