Data Engineer – Fixed Term Contract (Finance Transformation)
Please note: this position is offered as a fixed-term contract with the option for a hybrid working model in our Finance Transformation team based in London.

Your Next Challenge: The Data Engineer Role
The Data Engineer plays a pivotal role in enabling Finance & Treasury to deliver accurate, timely, and insight-driven reporting by:
- Building scalable data solutions.
- Maintaining core data infrastructure.
- Supporting system modernisation in Finance.
This function is critical as Finance undergoes major transformation. The ideal candidate will:
- Shape new ways of working.
- Enhance system capabilities.
- Ensure Finance is equipped with reliable, governed data.
Key Responsibilities
SQL, Data Extraction & Transformation
- Design, develop, and maintain SQL structures in Microsoft Fabric, writing efficient queries (SQL & Python) for scalable data pipelines across Lakehouse & Warehouse workloads.
- Develop and maintain optimised reporting datasets (including SCD Type 2 logic for historical accuracy).
- Enforce data security & integrity in a medallion architecture, with access controls & change auditing.
- Build and maintain Power BI semantic models on Microsoft Fabric Gold‑layer datasets—ensuring secure, performant, and well-governed reporting.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to onboard new data sources, including API integrations & ingestion processes.
- Write and maintain production-level code for lead management & Finance systems (scalability, performance, and reliability).
- Build complex datasets for reports, dashboards, and visualisations.
- Troubleshoot database issues, optimise performance, and identify bottlenecks.
- Conduct SQL code reviews for performance improvements.
- Stay updated on the latest database technologies & best practices.

Data Warehousing
- Implement ETL best practices for data modelling & integration.
- Optimise warehouse performance via efficient indexing, querying, and partitioning.
- Evaluate emerging trends in data management & analytics.
Finance System Infrastructure
- Support configuration changes to meet Finance & business requirements.
- Oversee upgrades & testing, ensuring the system remains fit for Finance users.
- Assist in implementing new functionality from upgraded software.
Who You Are
Essential Requirements
✅ Extensive SQL expertise in:
- Relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
- T-SQL & SparkSQL; stored procedures; production-level code.
- Experience with structured & unstructured data. ✅ Proven background as a SQL Analyst/Developer or Data Engineer. ✅ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. ✅ Knowledge of software development best practices. ✅ Strong analytical mind with sharp attention to detail. ✅ Excellent written & verbal communication skills. ✅ Advanced problem-solving & persuasive capability.

Desirable Skills
🔹 Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric. 🔹 Python/PySpark development experience. 🔹 Power BI semantic modelling. 🔹 API testing tools (e.g., Postman). 🔹 Knowledge of cloud platforms & modern Data architectures. 🔹 Experience in financial services or regulated environments. 🔹 Advanced Excel proficiency.
Education & Certifications
📖 Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, STEM, or related field. 🏆 Certifications (Python, PySpark, or cloud technologies) are a plus.
