A typical day as a Finance Data Engineering Lead
No two days look exactly the same here, and that’s part of what makes it work.
As a Finance Data Engineering Lead, you’ll play a key part in keeping things moving for our customers, suppliers and The Pros around you. You’ll take ownership, solve problems properly, and work with people across the business to make things simpler, faster and better.
You’ll be trusted to get stuck in, make decisions, and see things through.
What you’ll be doing
As Finance Data Engineering Lead, you'll own the end-to-end data infrastructure that powers our financial reporting, planning and analytics. You'll lead the design and delivery of robust data pipelines, champion engineering best practice, and ensure Finance teams have access to trusted, high-quality data.
Working closely with Finance, FP&A, Accounting and Business Intelligence teams, you'll help turn complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions while developing and mentoring your team to deliver exceptional results.
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of Data Engineers through coaching, code reviews and regular development conversations
- Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest and transform data from ERP, CRM, billing and payment platforms
- Own the architecture of finance data products, from raw data ingestion through to curated datasets used for reporting and forecasting
- Develop and maintain data models covering key financial areas including revenue, costs, cash flow and headcount
- Partner with Finance, FP&A and Accounting teams to understand business requirements and deliver reliable data solutions
- Collaborate with Analytics Engineering and BI teams to provide trusted, self-service reporting and dashboards
- Drive engineering best practice including version control, CI/CD, automated testing and documentation
- Monitor pipeline health and proactively resolve issues affecting data quality or reporting accuracy
- Implement data quality monitoring, alerting and observability to improve confidence in financial data
- Work with Data Governance teams to maintain data quality, lineage, security and access controls
- Manage sprint planning, backlog prioritisation and delivery across your team
- Continuously improve platform performance, scalability and cost efficiency across our cloud data environment

What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who knows how to get things done and works well with others to make it happen.
You don’t need to tick every single box, but you’ll likely bring:
- Significant experience in Data Engineering, including experience leading or mentoring engineering teams
- Strong SQL and Python development skills, with experience building production-grade data pipelines
- Experience working with cloud data warehouses, ideally Amazon Redshift
- Experience using orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow
- Strong understanding of data modelling and financial data domains including revenue, cost, forecasting or financial reporting
- Experience partnering with Finance, Accounting or FP&A teams to deliver business-critical data solutions
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a passion for building scalable, reliable data platforms
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- A collaborative approach and a passion for continuous improvement
It Would Be Great If You Also Have
- Experience working with AWS cloud technologies
- Experience using GitHub and CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of Power BI, Metabase or other business intelligence platforms
- Experience working within a fast-paced technology or marketplace business
- An interest in driving engineering standards and developing high-performing technical teams
