Competitive base + LTIP + benefits
Bath Rugby is one of the iconic clubs in professional rugby union, with a proud heritage of success through the 1980s and 1990s. The club won an historic treble in 2025, turned a profit in its most recent season, and is now poised to enter its next exciting period with a renewed focus on rugby success, commercial growth, and the transformation of its historic home at the Rec, including the new stadium development project.
Bath Rugby is seeking an experienced Finance Director to lead the finance function, act as a key commercial partner to the CEO and senior leadership team, and contribute to leading the club through this critical phase.
The Role
This is a role for a dynamic, engaging, commercially minded and adaptable Finance Director. Bath Rugby is an organisation where the requirements of the role and the club’s reputation and brand far exceed the scale of its financial operations. This is a senior leadership position requiring both technical financial rigour and commercial, strategic, and interpersonal skills to influence decisions across rugby operations, commercial, and the Board. Core responsibilities of the role will include:
- Developing and owning the club’s financial strategy, aligned to the CEO’s and Board’s vision for sporting and commercial success.
- Leading annual budgeting, quarterly reforecasting, and longer-term financial planning (3–5 year models).
- Providing financial appraisal of major decisions including:
- Stadium redevelopment
- Strategic opportunities and investment plans (rugby and commercial)
- Stadium/facility investment
- Sponsorship deals and new revenue streams
- Acting as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team (SLT) on financial risk, opportunity, and performance.
- Leading on business planning and financial reporting and controls for the stadium development project.
- Overseeing preparation of monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and Board reporting packs.
- Ensuring delivery of budgeted financial performance, both P&L and cash flow.
- Managing the club’s salary cap submissions and ongoing compliance, working closely with the Head of Rugby and Head of Recruitment on contract structuring.
- Partnering with the Commercial, Marketing, and Revenue Directors on:
- Pricing
- Sponsorship contract structuring
- Revenue forecasting for ticketing, hospitality, retail, partnerships, and other income streams, helping to maximise opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Preparing clear, decision-ready financial papers for Board, sub-committee, and SLT meetings.
- Handling Board company secretarial duties and legal compliance.
- Leading, developing, and managing the finance team, ensuring capability and resilience.
- Overseeing the HR & People function, working with the Head of HR to implement the club-wide HR & People Plan and ensuring the deployment of robust processes and policies, particularly regarding safeguarding.
- Championing a culture of financial discipline and accountability across the club, including with non-finance members managing budgets.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
