The role supports effective governance and delivery discipline by helping to prepare, coordinate and maintain visibility of key commitments, risks and dependencies, enabling the CFO and Finance Strategy Director and wider leadership team to make informed decisions. Through strong organisational capability and sound judgement, the Business Manager helps ensure activity across the Finance and Transformation function is well-aligned, appropriately governed and clearly communicated, with issues surfaced promptly to the appropriate owners for resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • CFO Office Governance

    • Supports the coordination of governance activity and delivery cadence, ensuring consistent standards and execution across all Finance and Transformation activity.
    • Provides early visibility of delivery risks, governance issues and execution challenges.
    • Tracks actions and commitments, supporting clarity of ownership and progress rather than owning resolution and helps to ensure consistent application of governance, delivery and reporting standards across the Finance and Transformation team.
    • Supports the ongoing effectiveness of relevant Finance and Transformation governance forums and operating rhythms by coordinating inputs, materials and follow-ups aligned to departmental priorities.
  • Delivery Control & Coordination

    • Maintains the central delivery view across CFO priorities, plans and commitments.
    • Supports delivery coordination across Finance and Transformation, helping leaders maintain oversight of progress, dependencies and upcoming decision points.
    • Provides forward visibility of upcoming decision points, governance activity and delivery risks, ensuring the CFO and Finance Strategy Director are sighted and prepared.
    • Identifies and actively manages interdependencies across CFO priorities, ensuring alignment and resolving conflicts where they arise.
    • Ensures activities are clearly owned, sequenced and actively progressed with the delivery owners in line with agreed priorities.
    • Provides consolidated and decision-ready visibility of progress, risks and dependencies to the CFO and Finance Strategy Director.
    • Owns the use of CFO Office framework, including governance of KPIs, reporting, tracking mechanisms and management information used to support decision-making.
    • Provides constructive challenge to the Finance and Transformation team on delivery performance, prioritisation and adherence to agreed governance and standards.
    • Represents the CFO Office in delivery forums and working groups, acting on behalf of the CFO to drive alignment, resolve issues and maintain momentum against priorities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
