Location: Hybrid, Birmingham Jewelry Quarter
Contract: 6 Month FTC
Working hours: M- F 9am to 5pm
Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a Regional Employers Organisation for the West Midlands based in Birmingham for a Finance Improvement and Transformation Accountant for a 6 month FTC. The role is demanding as it will involve working closely with the CFO as a genuine partner, helping them lead and coach the team, through resistance to change in the wider team and to address capacity and development needs.
Purpose of the Role
This is a hands-on role requiring someone who is equally comfortable preparing journals and reconciliations as they are redesigning processes and challenging existing ways of working. Working closely with the CFO, the successful candidate will maintain business-as-usual activities while delivering a programme of finance improvements, including process simplification, systems optimisation and strengthening financial controls.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact within a small but ambitious organisation. Working directly with the CFO, you will help shape a more efficient, resilient and sustainable finance function, delivering practical improvements that will strengthen reporting, reduce manual processes and improve the long-term sustainability of the finance function.
Responsibilities
Business as Usual
- Support the production of monthly management accounts
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Journal preparation and posting
- Manage Prepayments, accruals and deferred income
- Provide financial support to budget holders
- Maintain accurate financial records
Finance Transformation
- Review end-to-end finance processes
- Identify opportunities to simplify and standardise processes
- Reduce manual spreadsheets
- Improve month-end timetable
- Document finance procedures
- Improve financial controls
- Maximise the use of finance systems (Sage CRM and Sage 50)
- Develop robust working papers and templates
- Reduce reliance on single points of failure
- Support implementation of agreed improvements
- Produce clear process maps and guidance
- Improve the quality, consistency and timeliness of management information
