Finance Manager

📍 Location: Gosforth, England, United Kingdom

Are you passionate about leading finance teams, driving commercial performance, and delivering financial insights that influence strategic business decisions? We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead financial management, reporting, forecasting, and business partnering activities across multiple business functions. This role combines strong technical accounting expertise, commercial acumen, team leadership, and strategic financial analysis to support business growth and operational excellence.

As a key member of the finance leadership team, you will oversee financial reporting, maintain robust financial controls, support forecasting and planning activities, and provide meaningful insights that enable confident decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set performance expectations, provide coaching, and support career development initiatives.
  • Drive operational excellence and ensure high-quality financial deliverables across the team.

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Oversee the preparation and review of monthly management accounts and financial reporting packages.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting for business stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong financial governance through robust balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls.
  • Support audit requirements and ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.

Business Performance Analysis

  • Analyze financial performance and investigate variances against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
  • Deliver insightful commentary and recommendations that support commercial and operational decision-making.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities that impact financial performance and business outcomes.

Forecasting & Financial Planning

  • Support the development and management of rolling forecasts, budgets, and financial plans.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify financial risks and growth opportunities.
  • Provide scenario analysis and financial modeling to support strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to long-term planning and performance improvement efforts.

Commercial Finance Business Partnering

  • Act as a trusted advisor to operational and functional leaders.
  • Provide financial guidance, challenge assumptions, and support decision-making with data-driven insights.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve financial performance and business outcomes.
  • Support profitability, revenue growth, and cost optimization initiatives.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting structures, and internal controls.
  • Drive automation, standardization, and efficiency initiatives across finance operations.
  • Enhance reporting systems and management information to support business requirements.
  • Promote continuous improvement and best practices within the finance function.

Strategic Projects & Analysis

  • Support strategic business initiatives through financial evaluation and analysis.
  • Perform ad hoc financial investigations and business case assessments.
  • Contribute to projects focused on growth, operational efficiency, and organizational transformation.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with financial controls, governance policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support information security and data integrity standards.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness, accountability, and compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent.
  • Post-qualification experience in financial management, financial reporting, FP&A, or commercial finance roles.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial controls.
  • Proven experience managing and developing finance teams.
  • Experience within fast-paced, multi-site, or multi-business-unit environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of enterprise finance platforms and reporting tools.
  • Experience supporting commercial, operational, property, retail, hospitality, leisure, or consumer-facing business functions.
  • Background in budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering.
  • Experience leading finance transformation or process improvement initiatives.
