Are you a qualified accountant who enjoys owning the numbers end to end — and turning them into insight the business can act on? We're looking for a Finance Manager to take the reins of day-to-day finance for Virtual College and Netex UK, bridging the gap between transactional accounting and the strategic reporting that helps a growing global business make smarter decisions.

The role
You'll take ownership of the day-to-day accounting needs of Virtual College and Netex UK, with the support of the Accounts Assistant, providing accurate and on-time reporting and helping to bridge the gap between transactional and strategic financial needs
What you'll be doing
Team Management & Oversight
- Supervise direct report. Oversee the Finance Assistant.
- Monitor transactional workflows. Ensure accurate ledger processing.
- Review ledger reconciliations. Approve purchase and sales ledgers.
- Support career growth. Provide training and development where appropriate for the Accounts Assistant.

Financial Control & Reporting
- Lead month-end closure. Produce timely management accounts for Virtual College and Netex UK, including accrual and prepayment journal postings.
- Analyse financial variances. Explain deviations from budget.
- Manage balance sheets. Reconcile all control accounts, investigating and clearing reconciling items promptly, maintaining a clean and audit ready balance sheet.
- Oversee cashbook management. Review daily bank reconciliations.
- Vertical Cover. Provide cover and support across the finance function, including the Accounts Assistant role and, where required, the Finance Director, during absence or peak periods.
- Payroll. In conjunction with HR colleagues, provide information to the outsourced payroll function monthly
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Manage tax compliance. Prepare VAT and statutory returns.
- Support year-end audit. Prepare files for external auditors.
- Refine financial controls. Improve internal transactional processes.
- Maintain system integrity. Ensure accounting software optimization.
Data Protection Leadership (Training can be provided)
- Own ICO relationship. Manage registrations and external reporting.
- Maintain internal policies. Update company data privacy documents.
- Deliver staff training. Educate employees on UK GDPR where appropriate.
- Manage data requests. Handle Subject Access Requests (SARs).
- Investigate privacy breaches. Report incidents if they occur.
- Conduct DPIAs regularly. Run Data Protection Impact Assessments.
Because of Virtual College’s dynamic approach to business opportunities, you will from time to time be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within your capabilities.

What you'll bring
Essential
- A professional accounting qualification — ACA, ACCA or CIMA (or qualified by experience).
- A proven management history, with experience leading at least one team member.
- Strong ledger knowledge, with a deep understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable and cashbooks.
- Demonstrable experience of management accounts production and statutory reporting.
Desirable
- UK GDPR expertise and a sound understanding of the Data Protection Act 2018.
Technical & soft skills
- Advanced Excel skills. Competent with VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
- Systems. Use of accounting systems (Sage, Xero, Quickbooks etc).
- Discretion and integrity. Experience managing highly sensitive data.
- Strong and clear communication style. Ability to report to the Finance Director, both written and verbal. Ability to speak Spanish a bonus.
- High attention detail. Strict focus on transactional accuracy.
- Highly motivated. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, goal orientated and team player.
- Attitude and Behaviours. To support and adhere to Netex Group Values and Behaviours.
What we offer
- Salary of £40,000–£43,000.
- Hybrid working model, 2 days a week in the office.
