Background to the Role
The 3173 Group is an ambitious, fast-growing software and professional services business specialising in defined benefit pensions. With nearly 20 years of operational experience, it is now one of the leading providers of Trustee, Administration, Actuarial, Investment, and technology services in its markets.
Using its unique proprietary technology platform (Mantle®), 3173 maintains a significant competitive advantage. While the company operates offices across the UK, its headquarters are in Belfast.
A major investment from Synova in September 2022 has positioned the business to consolidate its market leadership and scale further in pensions and technology sectors.
With continuous growth, 3173 is seeking a Finance Manager to take full ownership of financial operations for Dalriada Trustees, including P&L oversight, balance sheet responsibility, and complex client billing.
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, this role will:
- Drive financial performance and decision-making support.
- Streamline financial processes and insights.
- Lead and develop a small finance team.
About You
We are looking for a qualified accountant with post-qualification experience in a busy commercial finance environment. Ideal candidates will have:
- Finance Manager or equivalent leadership-level experience in a fast-paced, commercial setting.
- A desire to advance their career in a high-growth financial services consultancy specialising in pensions.
- Strong communication and influencing skills to engage with senior leadership.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint at an advanced level.
- The ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-based culture, contributing to Wider Finance Team development.

Responsibilities & Key Criteria
Core Responsibilities
- Manage a small finance team, including coaching, mentoring, and development of junior staff.
- Lead monthly management accounts, covering practice revenue, expense analysis, and variance reporting.
- Prepare Financial Performance Reports and finance board presentations.
- Support audited financial statements and provide audit evidence to external auditors.
- Business partner with the commercial team, providing financial insights, performance monitoring, and profitability improvements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead complex billing processes (time-based, fixed-fee, milestone billing).
- Manage invoicing accuracy, revenue recognition, work-in-progress (WIP) reconciliations, and debt collection.
- Support wider Group Finance reporting and the Group Financial Controller/CFO as required.
Minimum (Essential) Requirements
- Strong academic background, including a pass in A Levels.
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification with commercial finance experience post-qualification.
- Finance Manager-level experience in a commercial environment (preferably in Professional Services or a high-complexity billing sector).
- Experience in leadership and team development.
- Experienced in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, equivalent) for sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers.
- Proficiency in complex billing models (time & materials, project-based) and revenue recognition principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong commercial awareness.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, and deliver high-accuracy results under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with internal and external stakeholders.

Circumstances
Location
- Belfast, Manchester, or Glasgow (Hybrid).
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (additional hours as necessary).
Probation & Security
- All positions include six-month probation.
