The Opportunity

Athwal Resourcing is delighted to be supporting an established, purpose-led organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Finance Manager to join its Senior Management Team.

As Senior Finance Manager, you’ll combine strategic leadership with operational excellence, taking full ownership of financial performance, governance and compliance while acting as a trusted adviser to the CEO and Senior Management Team.

This opportunity has arisen following the planned retirement of a long-serving and highly respected finance leader, giving the successful candidate a comprehensive handover and strong financial foundations to build upon.

If you’re looking for a role where your contribution genuinely matters, where you’ll have a seat at the leadership table and where your work will help shape the future of the organisation, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

Key responsibilities as Senior Finance Manager include:

  • Strategy: Work with the CEO and Senior Management Team to shape financial strategy, leading annual budgeting, medium-term planning and cash-flow management and modelling strategic options across membership income, fundraising, events, investments and reserves.
  • Financial Management: Prepare and present timely, insightful management accounts, budgets, forecasts and dashboards for the Senior Management Team and Board.
  • Leadership: Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and strong financial literacy across the wider organisation.
  • Financial Control: Own the financial control framework, including delegations, authorisation limits and accounting policies, ensuring robust, well-governed financial processes across the organisation.
  • Governance: Present financial papers and insight to the Board, Trustees and Finance & Audit Committee, ensuring timely distribution of accurate reporting and supporting sound governance decisions.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Companies Acts, Charities Act, Charity SORP (FRS 102), HMRC, Gift Aid and VAT, and lead statutory accounts preparation and external audit through to a clean outcome.
  • Risk & Controls: Lead the financial elements of the corporate risk register, maintain effective internal controls and fraud prevention, and own the finance systems roadmap, partnering with wider teams on key integrations.
  • Business Partnering: Act as a trusted adviser to the CEO, providing financial insight, challenge and clear, actionable analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build strong relationships with Trustees, auditors, investment managers and professional advisers, becoming the organisation’s trusted finance professional both internally and externally.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
