Interim Commercial Contract Accountant

Contract: 3-6 Month Interim Assignment

Location: Remote (UK)

Start Date: ASAP

Day Rate: £450 per day (Inside IR35)

A leading multinational facilities management and support services organisation is seeking an experienced Interim Commercial Contract Accountant to support several key contracts during a period of operational and commercial focus.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will act as a key finance business partner to contract management and operational leadership teams, delivering high-quality financial reporting, commercial insight and performance analysis. You will play a critical role in ensuring robust financial control, supporting strategic decision making and driving continuous improvement across contract performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of monthly management accounts, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in line with IFRS and group accounting policies.
  • Manage full P&L and balance sheet responsibility across designated contracts, including journal postings, reconciliations and month-end close activities.
  • Partner with operational and contract management teams to provide financial analysis, challenge performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and rolling financial planning processes.
  • Monitor key contract performance metrics and provide meaningful commercial insight to support decision making.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through detailed analysis of financial and operational data.
  • Prepare quarterly accounting papers, financial models and supporting analysis for senior stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary finance contact for both internal and external auditors.
  • Ensure robust financial controls, governance and compliance processes are maintained.
  • Support the accurate and timely billing of customer contracts to optimise cash collection.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities, recommending solutions and corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Contribute to finance process improvement initiatives and support wider transformation projects.
  • Maintain accurate financial data within SAP and other reporting systems.

To Be Successful

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience operating as a Commercial Accountant, Contract Accountant, Finance Manager or Financial Controller within a complex organisation.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with experience reporting under IFRS.
  • Demonstrable experience of long-term contract accounting and monthly management reporting.
  • Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and business partnering.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to influence and challenge operational stakeholders effectively.
  • Previous experience within facilities management, outsourcing, support services, infrastructure or PFI environments
  • Strong systems expertise, ideally including SAP.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate successfully within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Available to start immediately or at short notice.
