Finance Manager

Location: London & Hybrid
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Reporting to: Directors

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in establishing and managing the day-to-day finance function within a dynamic startup environment.

A hands-on operational role, ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of core finance processes while working closely with senior management and external finance partners.

The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of the finance function, maintain strong financial controls, and provide accurate financial information to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day finance operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records
  • Process and oversee payroll, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time
  • Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including supplier payments, customer invoicing, credit control, and cash collection
  • Support the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reporting
  • Reconcile bank accounts and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end and year-end processes in collaboration with the external management accounts team
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, payroll providers, and other professional advisers as required
  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's finance system (Xero), ensuring processes are efficient and scalable
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls appropriate for a growing business
  • Produce regular financial reports and management information for the leadership team
  • Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and projects to support operational and commercial decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a Finance Manager, Assistant Finance Manager, or Senior Finance Officer role
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and operational finance
  • Experience managing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
  • Experience preparing budgets and supporting month-end reporting
  • Working knowledge of accounting software, preferably Xero
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Desirable

  • AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA, or ACA
  • Experience working within a startup, SME, hospitality, or fast-paced commercial environment
  • Experience supporting finance system implementation or process improvements
