Networks is a division under Freedom, part of the NG Bailey Group. With a turnover of £260m, Freedom is profitable and maintains positive cash flows within the electricity sector. Freedom’s Networks team delivers installation and maintenance services on the distribution network, with a budgeted turnover of c. £160m. This role focuses on growth and capitalises on opportunities arising from Distribution Network Operators’ upcoming regulatory cycles, seeking a committed Finance Manager to bolster financial disciplines.
About the Role
This high-profile Finance Manager position lies within the Freedom Networks division in Scotland, playing a crucial role for senior management in driving financial performance and delivery against business targets. It demands immense accountability, forward-thinking, and an ability to align operational finance with the Group’s financial vision. The role directly supports the Head of Finance for Freedom, maintaining regular engagement with the Finance Director, Managing Director, and Operations Directors, as well as finance, commercial, and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality financial and non-financial insights to support senior decision-making
- Ensure compliance with financial processes, controls, and governance
- Support investment appraisal with profitability tracking of returns
- Develop ad-hoc financial analysis to enhance business performance
- Oversee P&L reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis
- Challenge forecasts and monitor margin improvement plans
- Produce financial reports for external senior leadership and Group stakeholders
- Manage working capital reporting, including debtor plans and cash flow optimisation
- Drive process improvements through ERP systems and operational efficiencies
- Partner with divisional finance teams to enhance reporting, governance, cash collection, and financial discipline

Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Strong analytical and forward-thinking approach to problem-solving and decision-making
- Ability to influence, collaborate, and understand stakeholder perspectives
- Results-driven with clear ownership, accountability, and focus on delivery
- Proactive mindset, with initiative to improve processes and add value
- High attention to detail with strong data manipulation, Excel, and reporting skills
- Experience in supporting non-financial stakeholders with financial insight
- Positive, solutions-focused attitude; capable of working under pressure
- Professional qualification (CIMA, ACCA, or ACA)
Desirable Traits
- Flexible and adaptable thinking; open to diverse perspectives
- Strong personal impact with the ability to represent the business effectively
- Commitment to aligning with company values and maintaining its reputation
- Experience in contract accounting
- Track record of improving or implementing reporting/MI processes
- Degree qualification (2:2 or above)
