Background to the Role
The 3173 Group is a high-growth software and professional services business specialising in the defined benefit pensions sector. With offices across the UK—headquartered in Belfast—the company has thrived for nearly 20 years, becoming a leader in trustee services, administration, actuarial consultancy, investment management, and proprietary technology solutions.
In September 2022, it secured strategic investment from Synova, a leading growth investor, enabling accelerated expansion and consolidation in the pensions and technology markets.
As part of continued growth, 3173 requires a Finance Manager to oversee Dalriada Trustees’ financial operations, including profit & loss management, balance sheet integrity, and complex client billing, leading a small finance team.
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the role will drive financial performance, improve processes, and provide actionable business insights. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, results-driven finance professional seeking to grow within a dynamic, mission-driven organisation.
About You
Key requirements include:
- Qualified accountant (preferably ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with commercial finance experience post-qualification
- Proven Finance Manager (or similar) experience in a busy, fast-paced commercial environment
- Professional services or high-complexity billing background is a strong preference
- Leadership experience, including team coaching, mentoring, and development
- Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Xero)
- In-depth knowledge of commercial billing models (time-based, fixed-fee, milestone billing)
- Revenue recognition principles, credit control, and financial forecasting
- Exceptional Excel, PowerPoint, and storytelling skills for clear financial reporting
- Confident communicator who thrives in a collaborative, high-growth environment
- Atention to detail, commercial acumen, and ability to escalate challenges

Responsibilities
Core Duties:
Team & Operational Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and develop a small finance team, fostering growth and accountability
- Lead monthly management accounts, including revenue, expense, and variance analysis
- Prepare monthly Financial Performance Reports and Finance Board reports
- Assist in audited financial statements and provide audit evidence to external teams
- Partner with the commercial team to drive profitability via data-driven insights
Commercial & Client Billing
- Oversee complex client billing arrangements, including time-based, fixed-fee, and milestone models
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition, timely invoicing, and WIP tracking
- Reconcile work-in-progress (WIP) monthly and manage debtor recovery
- Maintain robust credit control and financial compliance
Strategic & Process Improvements
- Identify and implement process efficiencies aligned with growth objectives
- Ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Support wider finance operations and collaboration with CFO and Group Finance

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum Qualifications
- Strong A-level academic record
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA plus post-qualification experience
- Finance Manager-level experience in commercial environments
- Leadership & team development experience
- Proficient in accounting software and revenue recognition principles
- Hybrid location preferred (Belfast/Manchester/Glasgow)

Working Conditions
- Location: Belfast, Manchester, or Glasgow (hybrid model)
- Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday–Friday, with flexible support during peak periods
