THE ORGANISATION

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is an esteemed arts organisation in the heart of Scotland, known for its contributions to the cultural and artistic landscape. With internationally acclaimed Scottish actor, writer and director Alan Cumming recently appointed as Artistic Director and a new Chief Executive leading the organisation into its next chapter, the theatre is entering an exciting period of growth, innovation and increased national and international profile. As a not-for-profit organisation, it plays a key role in delivering meaningful cultural experiences to a wide audience while maintaining strong financial stewardship.

THE ROLE

As the Finance Manager, you’ll take the lead in ensuring robust financial operations, accurate reporting, and compliant financial controls. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will support the organisation’s mission by embedding best practices and guiding both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

  • Manage day-to-day finance operations including AP, AR, payroll, and banking
  • Oversee the month-end close process, ensuring journal, accrual, and reconciliation accuracy
  • Investigate financial variances and provide insights for management reporting
  • Strengthen financial controls and ensure compliance with internal and external policies
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis efforts
  • Lead year-end audit preparations and statutory reporting
  • Supervise junior finance staff, guiding development and performance
  • Act as finance systems lead to drive process and system improvements
  • Provide financial guidance to non-financial stakeholders and deputise for the Head of Finance

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We’re looking for someone with a strong finance foundation and a proactive approach to managing finances in a dynamic environment. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact in a not-for-profit setting.

Mandatory

  • Qualified by experience or Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ICAS, CIPFA)
  • Proven experience in finance operations, including AP, AR, and payroll
  • Track record in month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial controls and compliance
  • Experience in management reporting and financial analysis
  • Proficiency in Excel and finance systems such as Xero
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior finance staff

Preferred

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ICAS, CIPFA)
  • Knowledge of Charity SORP and VAT compliance
  • Experience in the charity, arts, or publicly funded sectors
  • Proficiency with cloud-based finance tools
  • Experience supporting audits and statutory reporting
  • Track record in streamlining finance processes and systems
